PostgreSQL External Connection

To connect to PostgreSQL from outside, you need to make the following settings and restart the service.

We open the following settings file from the terminal on the server.

nano /etc/postgresql/9.5/main/postgresql.conf
We search with CTRL+w and write listen_.

We change the line you found as follows.

listen_addresses = '*'
NOTE: You can allow connection with only one IP address by typing only a single IP address instead of *, or you can allow multiple IP addresses by separating them with , (comma).

We restart the service.

service postgresql restart

We are trying to connect from an external computer.

NOTE: You must install Postgresql client for the psql command. You can install it with the following command.

psql -U postgres -h ip.ad.re.si
