Disney+ Starts Testing TikTok-Style Vertical Video Feature
Digital streaming platforms have begun changing their traditional viewing model as user habits continue to shift. Short-form video consumption has become dominant on mobile devices, forcing major platforms to adapt. For this reason, Disney+ has started testing a new vertical video feed inside its application, designed to keep users engaged without leaving the platform. The new feature focuses on quick content discovery and fast viewing, similar to modern social media apps.
New Feature Called Verts
The new system introduced by Disney+ is called Verts. This feature provides a vertical scrolling video feed where users can watch short clips from movies and TV shows. The structure is very similar to the format used by TikTok, **Instagram Reels, and **YouTube Shorts.
Users can scroll up to see new clips, and the feed is filled with scenes, trailers, highlights, and short previews. When a user likes a clip, they can instantly open the full movie or series page and start watching without searching manually. This makes content discovery much faster compared to the classic streaming interface.
Why Disney+ Is Adding Short Videos
Streaming platforms were originally built for long-form content, but user behavior has changed significantly. Mobile usage has increased, and people now prefer quick videos instead of starting long movies immediately.
Because of this shift, platforms are losing watch time when users leave the app to watch short videos on social media. By adding a vertical video feed, Disney+ aims to keep users inside the app while still offering the fast content experience they are used to.
This strategy also allows the recommendation algorithm to work better, since users interact with more content in a shorter time.
Gen Z Viewing Habits Are Changing Streaming Platforms
Studies show that younger audiences often decide what to watch after seeing short clips online. Many users discover movies and series through short videos before watching the full content.
Disney+ is trying to bring this behavior directly into its own platform. Instead of finding clips on social media, users can now explore content inside the streaming app itself. This increases engagement and helps the platform compete with social media apps.
A New Era for Streaming Services
Disney+ is not the only company moving in this direction. Many streaming services are experimenting with short-form video feeds to keep up with modern viewing habits. Experts believe that streaming platforms will slowly become more similar to social media applications, with algorithm-based feeds, short previews, and personalized recommendations.
The Verts feature shows that the future of streaming may not only be about watching movies and series, but also about discovering content through fast, scrollable video feeds.
